Dream Trip Day 146-150: Medellin

First stop in South America: Medellin, the Drug Paradise

20 years ago, Medellin was famous for it's drug trafficking, thefts, and military conflicts. When the "Drug Lord" Pablo Escoba was killed in gun fire in 1993. the government strived to rebuilt the city. After major reconstruction and introduction of culture, art, and educational elements, now it's a lovely city recommended by most travellers who had been there. The informative walking tour, the friendliness of the people, the comfortable climate all year had made it into one of my favorite city in the trip.

Perfect living condition with great views in Medellin only cost 1/8 the price of the tiny flat in suburb Hong Kong. Why??????

Happened to be in Medellin when the Annual "Feria de las Flores" was held. Had a great time all the beautiful parades and interacting with the enthusiastic crowd who climb tall trees to get a good view. Feel funny when being asked for photos again. Haha.

Cultural Difference
C from France is a music student who come just to Colombia for its music and culture for her entire 3 month long school holiday. She can memorize the music she heard on the street, and remake and sing it beautifully with a guitar. I told her, there was a lot of people in HK who had high level certificate for various musical instruments but most of them never play the instrument after that. Because most of them are forced to practice the instrument and once they satisfy their parent's expectation of achieving a certain level, they happily put away the instrument, finally escaped from it. "It's so sad! Music is supposed to be a happy thing you love!" Yes it is. It is so sad.

Medellin is one of the places that I would consider living in. Well, let me finish the grand trip around the continent before I decide.
