Dream Trip Day 94-97: New travel mate in Honduras
Finally left Guatemala yet faced another difficulty in Honduras: stuck in the border town with no more bus to Copan for the day. Tired of the border run and with no Honduras Limperia on hand. With the help of a strange man who seems to be an agent or what, we got the money and found a prison-like hotel room to stay for the night and then fled early the next morning.
In Copan Runias, we met our new travellmate, J from USA. Together we toured around the Ruins which is very well preserved. (Can still see the details and colour on the stone walls and statutes.) Plus two beautiful Scarlet Macaw! Yay!
The guidebook said Gracias is a beautiful colonial town. Yet the whole town was under construction when we arrived. The cobble stone streets were dug up and replaced with smooth & dull concrete. Buildings lacks preservation with little to see other than the church in the main plaza. So disappointed! Wasn't fit enough to hike the mountain here so we decided to go for the hot springs! It was nice enough for the 50L entrance fee.
Lake Yojoa is rated similarly nice as Gracias in LP. With the disappointment in Gracias, we didn't expect much from here and were therefore pleasantly surprised. Joined a slightly expensive (350L) bird watching tour which turned out to be very worthy.
It was a private tour rowing a boat down the river to the lake while the knowledgeable guide pointed us to different birds in the area! It was amazing to see so many birds in a few hours!! The view at the lake was gorgeous too!
We came during World Cup and the Hostel has live broadcast. With all the mosquitoes buzzing around, we learnt from the football stars and pass around the mosquito repellent with feet...
